Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a private and a personal chef?
Private chefs cook for only one family and prepare meals as needed. A Personal Chef has several clients, usually one per day, and prepares and packages multiple meals in the client's home. A personal chef brings the joy of cooking and a balanced lifestyle right to your own dinner table.

Why don't you prepare the meals in your own kitchen and then bring them to me?
In California, Health Department regulations require that foods to be resold are prepared in either a commercial kitchen or in the client's home. By cooking in your kitchen I'm preparing your food in the same environment that you use when cooking for yourself and your family, thus abiding by California's regulations.

What if my kitchen doesn't have what you need?
This is definitely not something to worry about. As part of the initial consultation, I will research your kitchen to see what kitchen tools, pots and pans, etc. you possess. I will bring with me whatever tools you don't have. If you would like, we can also talk about purchasing basic kitchen items.

Is a personal chef affordable for me?
Yes! Sprig of Thyme is saving you hours of time spent planning, shopping, cooking and cleaning up, on top of all of the rush hour grocery store dashes after work. Think of all of the quality free time you will now have to devote to other important areas of your life.
Plus, imagine the money you will be saving each week by not calling for take-out or frequenting your neighborhood cafes because you're too tired or too busy to cook. On top of that, what about all of the food items that always "go bad" before you find time to use them? Say goodbye to the expense and to the rotting odor! Now, factor in the amazing health benefits to having your own personal chef. You'll finally be eating balanced meals on a regular basis, personally customized to your dietary needs and tastebuds!
Your own personal chef is affordable, and a sound investment for a healthy future.
